Children at BiCon

Children are welcome at BiCon. We consider anyone under the age of 16 during BiCon to be a child. Anyone who is 16 or older is considered independent enough to be attend sessions on their own but all people under 18 will need a named "responsible adult" who is also attending BiCon which will be shared with the venue as part of their safeguarding requirements.

Should you wish to attend BiCon with children under 18, please note this on your registration form and register as soon as possible. There is no charge for bringing your children to BiCon with you though there may be a subsidised charge for bedrooms (see below).

Accommodation

We can now confirm that children of any age can stay in the same room as their adults in BiCon accommodation, however parents are not allowed to set up portable cots in the rooms due to fire regulations, so you would have to share the small double bed.

The maximum occupancy of each room is two, so if you have more than one child per adult you would need to book an extra room. If this applies to you or if you would prefer a separate room for your child please get in touch with us about child bedroom prices which will be subsidised.

If on site accommodation proves unsuitable for your needs, Salford and Manchester together have a wealth of hotels and AirBNBs which can provide family rooms, and you may be able to apply to the Access Fund to help meet some of the extra costs you face as a result of not being able to use BiCon accommodation.

Crèche

We will be able to offer a crèche within the University House building. This will be provided by Bluey and Baloo who are professional crèche providers who provided the crèche for BiCon in 2016 and 2017 and we are very happy to be working with them again. We will confirm the exact crèche opening times nearer the time, but hope to cover all or most of the daytime session time. Children will need to be booked into the crèche in advance so please let us know when you book if you will be bringing children with you and we will send you a crèche booking form. The crèche booking deadline has been extended but we still need to hear from you by 30th June.

Sessions

Children are welcome in sessions unless there is an age restriction posted in the session book. The session book also has contents notes detailing topics which you may feel are unsuitable.

We hope to have some sessions which are particularly family friendly and will actively seek them. We cannot say any more until we receive session facilitating offers.
